Minimum Requirements

  • Current Laboratory Technician license/certification
  • Proficient with computers, medical equipment, electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, proper personal protective equipment and protocol
  • Knowledge of administration procedures, dose, route and proper documentation

Additional Knowledge & Skills

  • Professional and personable with customer service skills
  • 2 years of experience as Laboratory Technician or performing related tasks
  • Knowledge of cancer care agents, pharmacology of cytotoxic and immunologic agents
  • Current Phlebotomy/Medical Assistant license/certification

Education

  • High School Diploma and/or College Degree

LABORATORY TECHNICIAN KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform duties under direct supervision of Laboratory Manager, Medical Staff or Provider
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures such as preparation of media and basic preparation of slides and smears
  • Conduct non-technical routine laboratory tests and procedures under the direction of professional staff
  • Set up and operate laboratory equipment in preparation for specimen examinations.
  • Open, separate, number and arrange specimens for laboratory examination and trace results.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and inventory for supplies and reagents
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies by cleaning and maintaining quality assurance records.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice and procedures
  • Assist Lab Manager in complying with Lab certifications and audits
  • Record all procedures and results accurately and timely in the EMR
  • Perform routine inventory daily, weekly, monthly and as needed
  • Produce reports for Management and Physicians as needed
  • Cross check and reconcile invoices with packing slips for Management and Accounting
  • Coordinate courier of specimens between clinics and labs as needed
  • Assist clinic staff with patient visit flow by taking vitals, weight, temperature and medication reconciliation of patients
  • Assist clinic staff by fielding telephone calls, document and route calls quickly and efficiently
  • Report to additional practice locations to provide Laboratory Technician coverage as needed
